Initiated by the Austrian research project PFASAN, the symposium brings together research groups that explore innovative remediation strategies for PFAS-contaminated sites. The programme will focus on approaches to immobilise PFAS and reduce their mobility in soil and groundwater, advanced oxidation processes for degrading persistent PFAS compounds, and the potential and limitations of microbial degradation.

In addition to lab-scale research, the symposium will present field tests and pilot applications, including permeable barriers and in situ soil washing, to discuss how emerging technologies perform under real environmental conditions and how they can support future remediation practice.
